The date is now fixed—when the climate bonus will be credited to your account. (Almost everyone in Austria will receive the climate bonus again this year.
The climate bonus will be paid out at the same time as school starts (at least in Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland).
The climate bonus is now entering its third round. While it has been clear for some time that the payout will be higher this year than in previous years, the Climate Ministry has long kept the exact start date a secret. First, there was talk of “fall 2024,” then of “after the summer,” and finally of “September.” Now, the date has finally been set.
This year’s climate bonus is 145 euros, 195 euros, 245 euros, or 290 euros, depending on the principal place of residence. The difference lies in the respective public transport connections in the various areas.
This year, 8,688,437 people in Austria are eligible. Of these, 7,841,515 will receive their climate bonus directly into their accounts—a new record.
“All people who have their main residence in Austria for at least six months in the 2024 entitlement year will receive the climate bonus, regardless of citizenship and age. Non-Austrian citizens require a legal residence status,” says the official statement. But there are also exceptions.
“With the eco-social tax reform and the climate bonus, we have firmly anchored climate protection in the Austrian tax system. The climate bonus is there for everyone and ensures climate-friendly behavior pays off,” says Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler.
This means those who protect the climate save on CO2 pricing and have a considerable climate bonus. As before, children under 18 will receive half, while people with limited mobility will always receive the total regional compensation.
At the same time, postal deliveries will also start in the first week of September. Since the start of the climate bonus, the number of Pluxee vouchers sent by post has been reduced by around a third, corresponding to a saving of around 400,000 letters. Around 847,000 postal deliveries will be made in the fall of 2024.
These will again be RSa letters (or RSb letters for minors), delivered personally so that the climate bonus reaches the people entitled. This process takes around eight weeks.
